HMD and Heineken (yes, that Heineken) recently teamed up to design and make a Boring Phone. That’s not just the description of the phone, mind you: that is actually the name of the phone.
Heineken already has a page dedicated to the Boring Phone up on their site but we’ll try our best to sum up this very real and clearly out-of-place device. Specs-wise, it’s got a 2.8-inch QVGA display on the inside, a 1.77-inch display on the cover that’s flanked by a 0.3MP camera and LED flash. The software that runs it is a Mocor RTOS. The highlight of this phone, though, is that it comes pre-installed with Snake.
Other specifications of the Boring Phone include a 1,450mAh battery, along with 128GB of storage and is expandable via microSD card. Interestingly, it supports up to 4G connectivity and also comes with dual SIM card slots. Those are actually not such bad specifications, up until you remember or realise that, even with those features, there isn’t a whole lot you can do with it as you would with the conventional smartphone, primarily because it is, wait for it, a feature phone.
If you’re wondering when you’ll be able to purchase this, the answer is you can’t. If it wasn’t already obvious, the Boring Phone is a promotional stunt for the beer brand and can only be obtained via giveaway within the UK at current, with other markets expected to open up the chance to win one unit later this year.
