NVIDIA Reportedly No Longer Working On A GeForce RTX 4090 Ti

While the next-generation flagship will be getting a 512-bit memory bus.

Rumours have it that NVIDIA may have quietly ended any and all work and development of the alleged GeForce RTX 4090 Ti. For that matter, the GPU brand may just be working on lower-tier versions of the RTX 4070 and RTX 4060.

The rumours come from reputable leakster kopite7kimi (@kopite7kimi). According to them, they say that, instead of developing an RTX 4090 Ti anymore, NVIDIA has supposedly shifted its focus towards the generation of a some low-grade AD103 and AD106 GPU architectures, both of which are a bit odd and late at this stage, given that the aforementioned RTX 4070 and 4060 cards already exist.

I'm afraid there won't be RTX 4090 Ti anymore. Some low-grade AD103 and AD106 chips will be another versions of RTX 4070 and 4060.

NVIDIA’s current king-of-the-hill is the GeForce RTX 4090 and it is a monster, both in performance and price. The problem with this GPU – if you could even call it a problem – is that the card is powered by the AD103, and not the more powerful AD102 that also exists.

RTX 4090 Ti notwithstanding, kopite also posted within the same hour that NVIDIA’s next generation flagship, codename Ada-Next, might just ship out with a 512-bit memory bus. This would be a major change in direction for the company, seeing how it has consistently stuck and limited the memory bus width to just 384-bit on all its flagship graphics cards. Its rival, AMD, is the only brand that has made GPUs with a 512-bit memory bus, with the first being the Radeon R9 290X that launched all the way back in 2013.

Combined with multiple sources, I confirm the gaming flagship of Ada-next will have a 512-bit memory interface.

Getting back to the subject of the RTX 4090 Ti, it could be argued that NVIDIA doesn’t have any reason to release such a card, more so because its direct rival, AMD, doesn’t have anything of equivalent value to go up against even the non-Ti version of the card. Even Team Red’s current Radeon RX 7900 XTX was technically designed to go toe-to-toe with the RTX 4080, which is tier below.

Also, it is unlikely that we will be hearing any news from NVIDIA regarding its next-generation graphics card until 2025, meaning that we’ll just have to twiddle our thumbs until then, or until AMD finally addresses the rumours of a possible Radeon GPU powered by its 3D V-Cache technology.
