You may have seen recent reports of Spotify raising the price of its Premium subscription plans. The company itself has announced those changes now, stating also that affected users will be sent emails explaining this change starting today. Fortunately for Malaysian subscribers, we seem to have escaped the price hike.
The announcement has the complete list of countries affected by the price changes, though for specific changes, Spotify only provided the new prices in the US. And from said example, prices of premium subscription plans look to have gone up by US$1 (~RM4.56) across the board, with Premium Duo going up by US$2 instead.

In the grand scheme of things, the price hike itself should not come as a surprise, as Spotify CEO Daniel Ek has been considering raising prices for premium plans since late 2020. Other music streaming services have also raised their prices within the past year.
More importantly though, the local market escaping this round of increased subscription prices hopefully means it will be easier to stomach the additional cost of the Supremium tier that’s reportedly coming this year. If you missed it, this is the HiFi tier that Spotify announced back in 2021, and has kept quiet about since, probably because the company intended to charge extra for it but was undercut by competitors who offered it without extra cost.
