It’s official. Tesla has finally and officially opened up shop in Malaysia, and to mark the occasion, the self-named Tesla Model Y will be the first of its EV range to debut in the country.

First unveiled in 2019 and put into production in 2020, the Tesla Model Y is the EV maker’s current vehicle to be designed and styled in the shape of an SUV. As per our earlier report, it will retail in the country starting with a starting SRP of RM199,000 for the base model. This, by the way, is the model with the rear-wheel drive configuration, a 0-100km/h acceleration of 6.9 seconds, and a WLTP range of 430km.

Add on an additional RM47,000, and you’ll get the Long Range Model Y. As its name implies, this model can go further, up to 533km, and also has a faster 0-100km/h acceleration of 5 seconds flat. Not only that, but it also ditches rear-wheel drive for an all-wheel drive (AWD) configuration, which technically translates to better grip and control of the vehicle while on the road.

Then there is the Tesla Model Y Performance SKU. Retailing at RM288,000, this model is for the speed freaks, the adrenaline junkies that wish to get from zero to 100km/h as fast as they can. As the fastest model on the list, it has a 0-100km/h of 3.7 seconds, but at a slight cost of range – it has a maximum range of 514km but on the plus side, it does feature the same AWD drive configuration as the Long Range model.

So, if you’re interested in ordering a Tesla Model Y for yourself, the good news is that you can simply pop by Pavilion KL until 31 October, where Tesla will be showcasing the EV at the centre of the mall, as well as take orders for the vehicle. Upon placing down your order, you can expect your unit to ship out to you in 2024. On another note, the vehicle ships out in a Pearl White Multi-Coat colour scheme by default but there are three other colours: Solid Black, Midnight Silver Metallic and Red Mult-Coat. Those, however, are optional extras that cost an additional RM10,000 per colour.

In conjunction with the arrival of Tesla and the Tesla Model Y in Malaysia, the vertically stacked energy solutions company has also made Pavilion one of the first Tesla Supercharger hubs in KL. Those superchargers are located at B1 of the mall’s underground parking lot, of which there are eight of them. For that matter, the company is expanding the availability of its superchargers across the country, with Penang and Johor the other two states for now, but as of this moment, the city with the highest density of these chargers are located in KL.
