Garmin today has launched the new Instinct 2X Solar series in Malaysia, which is available in standard and Tactical variants. As implied by its name, both models under the line-up are equipped with solar charging capability which allows for long-lasting use. Additionally, they also come with rugged bodies, large displays, built-in flashlight, and plenty of other onboard features.

Both the standard and Tactical Edition of the Garmin Instinct 2X Solar feature a 50mm fibre-reinforced polymer body (case and bezel), along with 1.1-inch display that’s protected under a scratch-resistant glass. The latter also doubles as a solar panel, which technically grants the wearable with unlimited battery life. The screen itself, on the other hand, is monotone and has a resolution of 176 x 176 pixels.

Apart from that, the body itself is rated 10 ATM in water resistance and there’s also an integrated LED flashlight with variable intensities as well as strobe modes. The light can be set to illuminate in either white or red for the standard variant, while you’re given a choice of either white or green on the Tactical Edition. Meanwhile, its straps are made from silicone material and fits wrists with a circumference of 145 to 228mm. In terms of colourways, the standard Instinct 2X Solar is available in Moss, Flame Red, Whitestone and Graphite, while the Tactical Edition is offered in Coyote Tan or Black colours.

Much like a majority of Garmin’s wearables, the Instinct 2X Solar series also comes with numerous health and fitness tracking capabilities. These include wrist-based heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, Pulse Ox and more, while the different types of built-in sports modes include the likes of walks, runs, biking, strength training, swimming and so on. Of course, there’s the positioning functions that’s powered by its onboard Multi-Band GNSS support, as well as typical smartwatch features such as notification from a paired smartphone via Bluetooth.

While you could have unlimited battery life thanks to its solar charging capability, Garmin notes that the smartwatch can last up to 28 days without charging on smartwatch mode, up to 65 days on battery saver mode, up to 30 hours on GPS, or up to 32 days on Expedition GPS Activity mode. If required, you may choose to charge it through a power source by using a compatible proprietary charger.
