After making them free since late January, TNB has now begun to impose charging fees on EV owners that want to utilize the TNB Electron DC fast chargers (DCFC). Available in several locations within North-South Expressway (PLUS) and East Coast Expressway Phase 2 (LPT2), the charging fee depends on the specific charger that they choose.

However, TNB has gone for the duration-based fees for its Electron chargers instead of the consumption-based fees. According to TNBX which is the subsidiary that is responsible for these chargers, the charger in the northbound R&R Ayer Keroh costs RM2.20 per minute.

The same fee applies to the northbound R&R Paka as well. Both of them have the 2 x 90kW configuration and were officially made available to the public at the same time on 20 January which was just in time for the Chinese New Year.

On the other hand, the latest TNB Electron charger which is located at the northbound R&R Tapah has two different fees. Those who opted for the 80kW option will have to pay RM2.05 per minute while the more powerful 100kW output is priced slightly higher at RM2.35 per minute.

In order to reserve, activate, and pay for the usage of these TNB Electron chargers, it can be done through the GO TO-U mobile app. The same app can also be used for other chargers under the purview of TNBX such as those located in Auto Bavaria’s BMW dealerships within Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor, as well as Hyundai Ara Damansara.

Meanwhile, TNB has recently announced that they are building six more TNB Electron DCFCs in selected R&R areas within Peninsular Malaysia including Machap (southbound), Rawang (northbound), Gunung Semanggol (northbound), Gurun (northbound & southbound), and Paka (southbound). The energy company did not reveal the exact rollout timeline for each charger but has said that all of them will go live within this year itself.
