During its Far Out media event last month, Apple launched a variety of new products including the iPhone 14, 14 Plus, & 14 Pro Series, Apple Watch Ultra, Series 8, & SE (2022), and second-generation AirPods Pro. Out of this huge list, only the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro Series have made their way to our shores so far which means there are still more to come from Apple.
In general, one of the most common signs of an imminent Apple product release is the price reduction for the previous generation models. In the case of the Apple Watch, we recently noticed that two of the largest Apple Premium Authorised Resellers in Malaysia, Machines and Switch have announced price cuts for Apple Watch Series 7 as well as Apple Watch SE (2020).
We doubt that the announcement was a mere coincidence since it took place right after all three of 2022’s Apple Watch models have passed through SIRIM’s certification process. As you may recall, Apple has yet to announce the Malaysian launch date for any of these smartwatches but the approval from SIRIM means that they are now ready to be released in our market.
Back to the price cut, let’s start with the first-generation Apple Watch SE which was originally released in 2020. In general, Switch is now offering the model with a discount of RM200:
- Apple Watch SE (2020) GPS 40mm: RM999 (new price) / RM1,199 (original price)
- Apple Watch SE (2020) GPS 44mm: RM1,149 / RM1,349
- Apple Watch SE (2020) Cellular 40mm: RM1,249 / RM1,449
- Apple Watch SE (2020) Cellular 44mm: RM1,399 / RM1,599
As for Machines, the discount is slightly less at RM150 though:
- Apple Watch SE (2020) GPS 40mm: RM1,049
- Apple Watch SE (2020) GPS 44mm: RM1,199
- Apple Watch SE (2020) Cellular 40mm: RM1,299
- Apple Watch SE (2020) Cellular 44mm: RM1,449
Moving on to the Apple Watch Series 7 that first rolled into our market last October. If you choose to purchase it through Switch, you will be getting a savings of between RM300 to RM600:

Just like we have noticed with first-generation SE, the discounts that Machines offered for Apple Watch Series 7 are still lower than Switch. Depending on specific variants, the savings that you will get is between RM 200 to RM300:

The inconsistency of the price cut between the two major Apple retailers is rather interesting to see as the price for Apple products is usually identical and tightly controlled across the market. Hence, it seems rather possible to find a good deal for these smartwatches if you are willing to hunt around.
Meanwhile, do note that Apple Malaysia’s online store has stopped carrying Apple Watch SE (2020) and Series 7 models. So, if you are in the market for either of them, you may want to compare their prices from one retailer to another in order to obtain the best deal possible.
