Slightly Mad Studios, the studio behind the Project Cars series, has announced that the first two games will be pulled from sale soon. This is due to expiring track and car licenses. Once it happens, you won’t be able to buy them from digital storefronts, but if you already own it by the time it happens, you’ll be able to continue playing. Even the multiplayer modes will continue to work.

The studio made the announcement on Twitter, as well as sharing the dates in which the games will be pulled. For some reason, the second game will be delisted from digital storefronts first, on 21 September. The first Project Cars, on the other hand, will no longer be available for purchase digitally starting from 3 October. There’s no announcement of a new game just yet, in case you were wondering.

For what it’s worth, you can get the first Project Cars available on Steam for a pretty steep discount. You can get the base game for 70% off, putting the price at RM11.70. The Game of the Year Edition bundle, on the other hand, has a 73% price cut, putting the price at RM48.42. No such offer exists for the second game, and the PlayStation Store doesn’t even list the first game individually.

Licenses expire all the time, but it rarely results in games getting pulled from storefronts as soon as seven years after release. For much older games, like the first three Metal Gear Solid games, it makes a lot more sense, since the most recent of them was released in 2004. Though if a previous rumour about a Snake Eater remake is to be believed, then Konami will have to renew said licenses at some point. Ditto the remaster of the first game, which is rumoured to be coming first before the remake of Snake Eater.
