Back in March, we have written about a watch that we dubbed the most affordable Omega watch ever. Of course, it is not really a pure Omega release but that did not stop the pandemonium that took place at the Swatch Pavilion KL as throngs of eager fans camped overnight to get their hands on the Swatch x Omega MoonSwatch collection.
Made in collaboration with Swatch, the MoonSwatch is based on the iconic Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch chronograph. Available in 11 colourways with each of them chosen to represent the planetary bodies within the Solar System, the watch carries a price tag of RM 1,065 per piece.
Some may deem the price tag as hefty but consider this: the actual Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional currently costs RM 25,750 according to Omega Malaysia’s official website. That’s around 24 times the price of the MoonSwatch!
Originally available only at Swatch Pavilion KL, we noticed sometime in June that the company changed the retail location list for the MoonSwatch collection to the branch in Mid Valley Megamall KL. A visit to the Swatch’s website a few days ago, Pavilion is back on the list together with another branch just across the road at Fahrenheit 88.
Despite having more stores selling the MoonSwatch collection, this does not mean there are more stocks available to consumers even though Swatch has early on said that it is not a limited edition release. Based on our conversation with the staff at the Mid Valley KL branch, it seemed that stocks remained scarce and they would sell out as soon as they arrived at the store.
Hence, they have advised those who are still interested to obtain the MoonSwatch to give Swatch Mid Valley KL a call first at 03-22825004 to check in-store availability. You can also call the Swatch Pavilion KL (03-21416839) and Fahrenheit 88 (03-21106688) to try your luck.
