AMD To Launch New Radeon RX 6x50XT Cards With 18Gbps Memory This April

The top-tier, reference 6950XT will supposedly come in an all-black design.

It’s been little more than a year since we first reviewed AMD’s Radeon RX 6800XT and 6900XT graphics cards and earlier this year, word about a souped-up RX 6950XT began floating on the digital ether. Now there’s a new rumour suggesting that AMD will be releasing the 6950XT later this April, plus two other cards.

According to a posting on Chiphell, AMD is expected to announce three new Radeon RX 6X50XT cards, either on 20 April or 21 April. The three cards are the 6950XT, 6750XT, and 6650XT. While all three cards are expected to be based on the same RDNA2 GPU architecture, one of the more important takeaways is that the memory on all three cards is expected to run at a frequency of 18Gbps, across the board. To date, only the 6900XT and entry-level 6500XT currently have memory that runs at that speed.

As for the 6950XT, the other rumours that have been flying around is that the card is, not surprisingly, expected to take on NVIDIA’s own GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, which is also expected to make its debut sometime later this month. Oh, and the new flagship Radeon card is expected to debut with an all-black reference cooler shroud, just like the RX 6800XT Midnight Black.

Again, this bit of news is still just a rumour and as such, the recommended consumption of sodium applies.
