Xiaomi Confirms That The Mi Band X Presentation Photo Is Real, But The Product Isn’t

It turns out that the brand's most advanced smart band is just a fictional product.

You may recall from previous reports that a photo of an internal Xiaomi presentation which mentioned a mysterious Mi Band X smart band was leaked a few days ago. As shown in a slide featured in the photo, the supposedly upcoming product would feature a revolutionary 360-degree flexible display along with a thin and light body that wraps around a user’s wrist. The credibility of the photo was later confirmed as genuine by a company executive, but the same can’t be said for the smart band itself.

It turns out that the Mi Band X is merely a made-up product created for a Xiaomi training program for new employees. This was made known by the brand’s public relations executive Wang Hua on Weibo, who added that the program includes various exercises that require staff to prepare the overall planning, marketing strategies, selling point refinement, and so on for a mock product.

Wang also insisted that the Mi Band X is not an actual product, and Xiaomi currently has no plans to work on such a device. This revelation would certainly disappoint those who are hoping for something completely different in the wearables market, especially one that introduces a technology never before seen on a smart band.

As we’ve pointed out before, a 360-degree display on a wearable device is indeed possible with current display technology. However, including certain components such as batteries, circuit boards and others on a thin flexible body is still a challenge for most manufacturers. This, of course, may change in the years to come as technology continues to evolve. So maybe, just maybe, we’ll see something similar to the Mi Band X by Xiaomi or other brands in the near future.
