Neil Blomkamp, the director famed for his critically acclaimed science fiction films, District 9, Chappie, and Elysium, recently announced that he is dipping his toes into the world of gaming. In conjunction, he also says that his first gaming title is going to be a “big multiplayer shooter”.
The South African director announced that he recently became a part of the Germany-based studio, Gunzilla Games, and jumped into the role of Chief Visionary Officer. In addition, Blomkamp said in an interview with IGN that he intends to bring his “directorial skills” that he uses in his films and apply them to the game’s aesthetics.
Blomkamp says that his first shooter title will be projected in a futuristic, science fiction world. Unsurprisingly, it’s a genre that is clearly right up his alley. It should be noted that while this is Blonkamp’s first time making a video game, he actually had a hand in directing Conviction, a short movie for EA’s now dead-in-the-water online multiplayer title, Anthem.

Naturally, Blomkamp did not share any further detail about his game with Gunzilla, but he does hope to create “a more convincing, awesome world for players to drop into”, once he has completed his game.
