The Special Committee for Ensuring Access to COVID-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) today has announced that the registration for AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine will kick off from Sunday, 2 May 2021 at 12 PM onwards. It will be taking place at JKJAV’s official website on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Earlier this week, the government decided to roll out the AZ vaccine through the opt-in method after some members of the public started to feel nervous about its inclusion in the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (NCIP) due to reports of blood clots in relation to the vaccine. This is being done to avoid wastage according to NCIP’s coordinator, Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

Aside from being 18 years and above, those who are planning to register for the vaccine tomorrow must already register themselves through NCIP which can be done through these three methods including directly via the MySejahtera app. Involving 268,000 doses, the distribution is taking place only in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

As previously announced, @JKJAVMY is offering an opt-in choice for people who want to take the AstraZeneca vaccine. Bookings will be open tomorrow, 2 May 1200hrs at https://t.co/TF4fINjmn7 You already need to be registered & will simply just need to pick a PPV & date. pic.twitter.com/05ijzmn6Kt

Speaking about the distribution, Minister Khairy stated that one is only required to choose their preferred date of vaccination and the Vaccine Administration Centre (VAC) during the registration process. He also revealed that the rollout will begin on Wednesday, 5 May 2021.

Additionally, the four specially designated VAC are Universiti Malaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, World Trade Centre KL (formerly known as PWTC), and IDCC Shah Alam. If you have successfully registered for the AZ vaccine, you will receive a notification of the vaccination time through the MySejahtera app and SMS.

Unlike the NCIP which has several alternative registration methods, Minister Khairy highlighted that JKJAV’s website is the only place where one can register for the AZ vaccine. Despite public opinion on the vaccine, it is highly possible that JKJAV’s website would be bombarded by visitors tomorrow.

You don’t need to re-register. Tomorrow at 1200hrs you will see this. Click on ‘mohon sekarang’ and follow the instructions. https://t.co/LW3fgzUYBh pic.twitter.com/gGUvmW8fgJ

So, be prepared to experience some slowdown during the registration process and that’s if you are able to access JKJAV’s website at all.
