With many fitness bands and smartwatches out in the market right now, it is quite a crowded market. Nevertheless, that doesn’t stop Amazon from introducing a new fitness band and app of its own via a new digital health platform that the company called Halo.
The Amazon Halo service that will provide AI-powered health features for users to gain more information about their health and wellness statistics which are delivered through the Halo mobile app. The app work hand in hand with the equally new tracker called Halo Band.
As you might expect, the Halo app focuses on fitness monitoring and it provides points to users upon completing a certain task. Other than that, it also allows you to track and monitor your sleep patterns and calculates your body fat percentage.
There is also the Tone feature which tracks the sound of your voice in order to let you know how you might sound when talking to others. Not to forget, there is also another feature called Halo Labs which was designed in partnership with several health apps, experts, and providers to help users discover the right fitness habits according to their own potential.
As for the Halo Band, it is a little different compared to other fitness watches in the market. This is because it is not equipped with a screen which means users will not be able to receive notifications or see their fitness data without their phone.
This was done on purpose though so that users can focus more on their activity rather than being distracted by a screen on their wrist. The Halo Band relies on a couple of sensors to provide relevant information including accelerometer, a temperature sensor, heart rate monitor, two microphones with on and off capabilities, and an LED indicator. Also, Amazon claims that the battery would last you up to seven days with a full charge within 90 minutes.
Amazon Halo membership is currently being rolled out as an early access program for USD 64.99 (~RM 271) which inclusive of the Halo Band and 6-months subscription. Once the initial 6-month period is over, the membership will then costs USD 3.99 (~RM 17) per month.
For now, Amazon will only ship Halo within the United States. It is safe to say that we will all have to remain patient until Amazon makes this product available internationally.
