ASUS today has officially unveiled its new gaming phone, the ROG Phone 3 which is essentially the company’s first phone release of the year. As per its predecessor, the new mobile gaming machine will be made available in different variants.

The standard ROG Phone 3 variant is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ processor alongside up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB UFS3.1 internal storage. On another hand, there is also the ROG Phone 3 Strix Edition that is powered by the vanilla Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor with 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB UFS3.1 storage.

In China, the Strix Edition can also be obtained with 12GB RAM and 128GB storage setup which is apparently exclusive to that market. Regardless of your choices, both the standard and Strix Edition models support 5G network.

Both phones also feature a 6.59-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display that has maximum refresh rate of 144Hz as well as 270Hz touch sampling rate and 25ms touch latency. Protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6, the display on ROG Phone 3 series also offered peak brightness level of 1000nits.

In terms of photography, ASUS has switched the rear camera setup from dual to triple sensors for ROG Phone 3 which include a 64MP Sony IMX686 for the main camera as well as 13MP and 5MP for the phone’s ultra-wide and macro cameras respectively. There is also a 24MP selfie camera on the front part of the phone.

Completing the basic specifications of ROG Phone 3 series is a 6000mAh battery and ASUS has provided each model with a 30W charger that supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 and USB Power Delivery 3.0 standards. Not to forget, side-mounted connectors and AirTrigger touch sensors have also been retained for ROG Phone 3.

Just like ROG Phone II, gamers will receive a cooler attachment alongside their ROG Phone 3. While it might look similar to previous models, the AeroActive Cooler 3 now features a built-in kickstand which is useful if you want to play games on the phone using a wireless controller or when you want to binge watch Netflix and YouTube.

The new cooler works hand in hand with other cooling elements inside the ROG GameCool 3 solution which consists of a cooper heat sink that is six times larger than the one in ROG Phone II as well as a redesigned 3D vapour chamber and substantially-sized graphite film. The solution also takes advantage of ROG Phone 3’s aluminium mid-frame to help reduce.

Pricewise, the standard ROG Phone 3 with 12GB/512GB configuration is listed at EU 999 (~RM 4913) while the 16GB/512GB goes for EU 1099 (~RM 5405). On another hand, the ROG Phone 3 Strix Edition which comes with 8GB/256GB configuration is priced at EU 799 (~RM 3930).

While the pricing of ROG Phone 3 in Malaysia is not known yet at the moment, early information that we’ve received from ASUS stated that it will not be far off from the launch price of ROG Phone II. For now, ASUS is looking to launch the new gaming phone in our market this coming September although the company has yet to lock down a firm release date for Malaysia.
