Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has announced its PlayStation Indies initiative, where the company highlights the indie games it publishes. And on its first day, the company has highlighted nine titles. Many of them are for the PS4, but there are those who will also be available on the PS5. One of them will be a next-gen exclusive.
In a PlayStation Blog post, Shuhei Yoshida, now PlayStation’s Head of Indies Initiative, says the company “hopes to spotlight and support the best of the best indie games being published on PlayStation and the entire indie community as a whole”. From the sound of it, this means some of these titles will not be exclusive to the PlayStation platform.
Yoshida also says that the company trusts indies to come up with new and fresh ideas into the gaming scene. Which is probably a good move, as he continues to say that AAA game makers are taking less risks, and continuing to only make what is known to work.
Indie games are becoming more and more important to SIE and the PlayStation brand. We’ve seen as much during the PlayStation 5 reveal, with its extensive list of indie titles. This initiative looks to be an extension of that.
