Speedy Video is a familiar name to many of us, thanks to its rather wide network of stores that appear at many shopping malls throughout the country regardless of their sizes. These stores provide entertainment buff with access to VHS tapes, CDs, VCDs, DVDs and Blu-ray Discs alongside related merchandises.
After being in the business since 1989, Speedy has now decided to shut down its business. This revelation took place on its Facebook page:
While the company did not mention the reason behind its closure, the advent of the Internet and the rising popularity of video streaming services might have taken a huge toll on Speedy. Furthermore, the recent Movement Control Order (MCO) could be a contributing factor as well since it has significantly reduced the traffic at shopping malls which equals to the lower number of potential customers.
Meanwhile, there are 14 Speedy outlets still operational in Klang Valley, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor. Since the company did not provide any firm closing date for these stores, you might want to visit them as soon as possible if you want to get your hands on the leftovers Blu-Ray, DVD, Box Set, audio CD, and accessories that are currently being offered at discounted prices.
