Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Saifuddin Abdullah today has announced that Dr Fadhlullah Suhaimi Abdul Malek will become the new Chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) starting from 10 June 2020 for the next two years.

He will be taking over the role from Al-Ishsal Ishak which was appointed back in October 2018. While Dr Fadhlullah was the Vice-Chancellor at Perdana University before today’s announcement, this is not his first stint at the agency as he was part of MCMC as a commission member between 2017 to 2018 and was its Chief Officer for Network Security, New Media Monitoring, Compliance and Advocacy Sector.

According to his biodata on Perdana University’s official website, Dr Fadhullah was also part of the taskforce for Multipurpose Card for National Registration and Telemedicine which were two of flagship applications of Multimedia Super Corridor. He has also spent some time at TM and PEMANDU.

Meanwhile, Minister Saifuddin has also appointed Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa as his new telco advisor. Zamzamzairani has spent a huge chunk of his career at TM and ultimately retired as its Group CEO in 2017 before appointed as the Chairman of UEM Sunrise in the same year.

Aside from these appointments, Minister Saifuddin has also stated that the government is planning to improve the policies within MCMC in respect to the COVID-19 pandemic. For example, it is looking to widen the coverage of broadband infrastructure throughout the country in a much faster manner.

Other than that, the government will also be looking into the 5G spectrum assignment methods as well as the jurisdiction of minister and MCMC. All in all, it seems that there is already plenty of work waiting for Dr Fadhlullah as soon as he starts his second MCMC stint tomorrow.
