The Ministry of Health (MOH) has revealed that 69 out of 3,963 COVID-19 positive cases are classified as sporadic. These sporadic cases were detected after the ministry conducted screening on 8,025 patients with diseases such as Influenza (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI).
Speaking at a press conference on 7 April 2020, director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah notes that the origin of most COVID-19 cases could be traced back to clusters such as the Sri Petaling or Kuching gatherings and so on. However, he adds that MOH could not identify the source of these 69 sporadic cases at this time.

MOH states that apart from the 69 reported, most positive cases of ILI/SARI screenings of COVID-19 patients are related to the aforementioned clusters. The ministry first reported findings of sporadic cases back in March, adding that the individuals involved had no history of attending the two mass gatherings or travelled overseas.
In light of this, the ministry urges all public and private health personnel to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when treating ILI/SARI patients in the ICU or performing screening at a clinic or hospital.
