Grab has officially launched GrabCar Elektrik in Indonesia. Specifically, the new electric vehicle (EV) service began operation in Jakarta at the start of the week.
The new service is part of the Indonesian government’s initiative to put two million EVs on its road by 2025. At current, GrabCar Elektrik comprises 50 Hyundai Ioniq, with plans for an additional 450 cars to be rolled out in the city before the end of the year. Also, due to the service being new, Grab will be running a pilot service around the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, for now.
When asked why it was limiting its service at the airport, Ridzki Kramadibrata, President Director, Grab Indonesia, replied saying that it was a good place to carry out the pilot. For those intending to try out the service, do note that the price for hiring out one of these EVs will be up to 15% higher than a petrol-driven vehicle.
