Nikon has officially unveiled the D780 DSLR camera, and successor to its popular D750 that was released in 2014. The company claims that the new camera is “a new kind of DSLR” by providing advanced camera features in a smaller and lighter body.

The Nikon D780 sports a 24.5MP backside-illuminated (BSI) full-frame FX format CMOS sensor, and supports a maximum ISO of 51200 which is expandable to 204800. Image processing is powered by the company’s EXPEED 6 processor – also featured in the Nikon Z6 and Z7 full-frame mirrorless cameras – which provides faster speed, low energy consumption, and improved low-light performance.

The D780 features a 51-point Autofocus (AF) system when shooting via the optical viewfinder, while Live View mode offers 2,733-point focal plane Hybrid AF. Live View also provides continuous and silent shooting of up to 12fps via the electronic shutter. The DSLR is equipped with an upgraded 180K-pixel Advanced Scene Recognition System, as well as Eye-Detection AF – a feature which was previously exclusive to Nikon’s mirrorless cameras.

In the video department, the Nikon D780 is comparable to the Z6 and offers full-frame 4K recording with full pixel readout at 30fps, as well as 1080p resolution at 120fps. Other video features include 10-bit output with N-Log or HLG HDR, focus peaking, highlight display, intervalometer, and in-camera timecode.

On the camera’s back is a tilting 3.2-inch touchscreen LCD screen, while on its side are dual UHS-II SD card slots. Besides that, the DSLR features a durable weather-sealed body, USB-C connectivity and charging, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support, and an equipped battery life of 2260 shots.

The new Nikon D780 will be available in the US in late January 2020, retailing at US$2300 (~RM9420) for body only. The camera will also be available in a bundle with a AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR lens for US$2800 (~RM11470). It’s availability and pricing in Malaysia has not been announced.
