Christian Bale in Talks to Join Thor: Love and Thunder

In ‘who-on-earth-saw-this-one-coming’ news: Christian Bale, known for his role as Gotham’s Dark Knight in Christopher Nolan’s acclaimed The Dark Knight Trilogy, is currently in talks to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). According to Collider, Bale is in talks to join Chris Hemsworth in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder. While both Marvel Studios and Christian Bale’s representatives have declined to comment, Jeff Sneider of Collider is one of the most reputable film journalists in working today, so there’s definitely some weight to this story.

Thor: Love and Thunder is shaping up to be Bale’s first coming book movie endeavour since The Dark Knight Rises in 2012. Since then, Bale has starred in a bunch of critically acclaimed films including American Hustle, The Big Short, Vice and most recently, Ford v Ferrari.

Thor 4 Taika Waititi

Taika Waititi is returning to direct Thor: Love and Thunder the highly anticipated sequel to his brilliant action-comedy, Thor: Ragnarok, which took a pretty bland character/franchise with a shortening lifespan and reinvented it to glorious effect. While not a huge fan of the film myself, Ragnarok is considered by many to be one of the best MCU films ever. Thor: Love and Thunder will see Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson reprise their roles as Thor and Valkyrie respectively.

The film will also see the return of Natalie Portman to the franchise as Jane Foster, who apparently will become THE MIGHTY THOR in this film. Waititi will also be back to provide the voice of Korg, who’s one of the funniest characters in the MCU. It’s still unclear what character Christian Bale is in talks to play. However, I speculate that it could be that of a villain.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to hit cinemas 4 November 2020.
