Foldable phones are now on the rise. With the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X now out in the market, the big two will have to face yet another challenger who is making their way into the foldables scene. Meet the Fold 1 by Escobar Inc. – also known by its full name, the Pablo Escobar Fold 1.

Yes, that Pablo Escobar.

The Fold 1 is a product of Roberto Escobar, the founder of Escobar Inc. and brother to famed Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar. The foldable smartphone features a 7.8-inch foldable AMOLED FHD+ screen, an Octa-Core 2.8Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 CPU, a choice of either 128GB or 512GB internal storage, Android 9.0 Pie, and dual SIM card support. Camera-wise, it is equipped with a dual camera setup consisting of a 16MP and 20MP sensors. Speaking to Digital Trends, Escobar claims that the Fold 1’s screen is made from a “special plastic that is difficult to break” which still provides “the best resolution.”

To anyone’s surprise, the phone’s release isn’t intended to be a competitor to Samsung or Huawei, but instead is meant to rival Apple. According to Escobar, the Escobar Inc. is providing users with a foldable phone with current features, technology and sturdier build for only a fraction of the price found on iPhones. He also said that the Fold 1 was built with security in mind, and claims that it is difficult for anyone – including governments – to scan the phone via Bluetooth or by cellular means.

The Pablo Escobar Fold 1 is currently running an initial limited run of 100,000 units and is priced at US$349 (~RM1456) for the 128GB variant, and US$499 (~RM2082)for the 512GB. The phone is shipped unlocked, therefore allowing you to use it with any cellular carrier of your choice. Lastly, the Fold 1 also comes with a cover that features a thin layer of metal that – according to Escobar – allows it to “block RFID and other communications.”

Escobar Inc.’s foldable phone is being sold with free shipping exclusively from their official website. Just a heads up; be prepared for some sleazy marketing if you do visit the page.
