After defeating the Mad Titan Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, Don Cheadle who plays War Machine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will now be attempting to destroy bad guys alongside Lebron James on the basketball court. Sort of. Cheadle will be joining the cast of Space Jam 2.
The news comes courtesy of Deadline. However, Cheadle’s role in the film, much like everyone else’s in Space Jam 2, is currently being kept a secret. We know that basketball superstar LeBron James will be the leading man in the film taking over from Michael Jordan who starred in the original 1996 Space Jam. For those who aren’t too familiar with LeBron James, think of him as the Messi to Michael Jordan’s Maradona.
And if you think this movie has cheesy/lame written all over it, you might wanna think again. The film is helmed by the up and coming Terence Nance, who has plenty of acclaimed short films under his belt, including a couple of AFI nominations. On top of that, the screenplay has a bunch of names attached to it (which isn’t a good thing), but THR has reported that the latest draft of the script is penned by Black Panther‘s Ryan Coogler as well as Searching‘s Sev Ohanian. Space Jam 2 will also be produced by Ryan Coogler.
Considering the talents involved, Space Jam 2 could turn out to be an interesting film. It’s currently set to dunk into cinemas 15 July 2021.
