Facebook has just announced that its latest AI creation may just solve ‘eyes-closed’ in photos. Using an obscene amount of data, the AI can automatically edit photos with open eyes without the user’s intervention.
This technology is not new as stand-alone products such as the Adobe Photoshop Elements 2018 features similar modes. What is different however is how Facebook’s AI can eerily create artificially generated eyes by using your previous photos.
As the AI learns how your eyes are usually like when it is opened, it can then generate image overlays that then can be applied over your photos with the closed eyes to created an open eye in the image.
Right now this technology is still undergoing research at Facebook’s R&D labs, but it shows that with Big Data, AI can effectively change your photos with ease. We can expect this feature to be rolled out to Facebook, which will be great for the casual photographer. It is kind of creepy though.
