Facebook is in full damage control mode as it tries to restore user confidence in its services. Owing to this, the social media giant is introducing a new tool that will make it easier for users to download and delete their personal data and posts from the site.
The introduction of the “Access Your Information” settings streamline controls for editing and deleting posts, pictures, and videos. Essentially giving people a simple way to delete stuff that they may no longer be proud of the world seeing; especially things from many years ago.
Downloading all the information that Facebook has about a particular account is also being made easier, although there is likely to be one more public outcry as people realise just how much data Facebook has collected.
All of this may have come a little too late for the social media site, seeing that the hashtag #deletefacebook has trended for more than a week now (ironically on Facebook itself as well). So much so that some big names like Elon Musk and Tim Cook have called the company out on its practices.
