OnePlus is looking into claims that its oneplus.net transaction system has been compromised. The investigation is centered around complaints from customers who noticed unusual credit card charges shortly after making on purchase through the OnePlus site.
A growing number of OnePlus customers have taken to both the official support forums and Reddit to chime in on suspicious credit card activity. A majority of the complaints come from those who have made a purchase within the last two months; particularly those who used credit cards. Customers who used PayPal for transactions have noticed no unusual activity at all.
On its part, OnePlus has responded to the concerns and published an official response. The company has provided an FAQ about the payment system involved, and reassured users that OnePlus does not store credit card information on its servers. Meaning that it is unlikely that user information has been compromised.
However, it doesn’t help explain what happened to allow the suspicious activity to happen. OnePlus claims that its transaction system is built in-house, which indicates that it has full control over the matter.
The investigation may take some time to be completed, but OnePlus customers are being advised to keep an eye on their credit card statements in the mean time.
