Asus Malaysia Announces AiMesh Feature For Select Wi-Fi Routers

Asus Malaysia has just announced the availability of a rather interesting new feature for some of its wireless routers. The feature, dubbed AiMesh, enables consumers to create a “flexible and powerful whole-home Wi-Fi system.” The firmware update is available for download on Asus’ official website.

What AiMesh basically does is to enable compatible Asus routers in creating a mesh-networking system in one’s home. What makes Asus’ AiMesh solution rather interesting is the fact that it can be used with different wireless router models (Asus only). What this means is that, a consumer isn’t tied to use just one router model for this feature. In contrast, conventional mesh-networking systems usually comprises of more than one routers of the same model.

One major benefit that comes with this type of mesh-networking system is that consumers are able to choose the type of wireless routers that fit their usage levels. By doing so, consumers are able to add a faster router in areas that requires a fast connection, and a “slower” one in places that don’t require much speed. It’s worth mentioning that while conventional mesh systems today are only limited to a single SSID, AiMesh allows for wireless routers to have more than one SSID for each frequency band.

Asus wireless routers that are currently compatible with the AiMesh feature include the RT-AC68U, RT-AC86U, RTAC88U, RT-AC5300, ROG Rapture GT-AC5300, and Asus Lyra. All of the aforementioned routers have already been made available in Malaysia at the time of writing. As mentioned earlier, the Asus AiMesh feature can be enabled by downloading the latest firmware update on Asus’ official website.
