Huawei Reveals More Details on Kirin 970; Dual-LTE Support, Improved Camera Performance

Not too long ago, Huawei invited us to a deep dive session of its latest chipset, the Kirin 970. Not only is it Huawei’s very first 10nm processor, it also comes with a slew of new features. Among them? Improved camera performance and support for dual-LTE.

Arguably the most interesting improvement with the Kirin 970 is in the camera department. In fact, Huawei actually compared the camera performance between the iPhone 8 Plus and a device powered by the Kirin 970. According to the company, the Kirin 970 enables better motion shooting, low light performance, as well as facial identification.

Another noteworthy feature the Kirin 970 processor brings is dual-LTE support. Unlike most smartphones in the market now, both the primary and secondary SIM cards in a Kirin 970 device can take advantage of LTE speeds. We imagine power users will appreciate this feature.

Of course, the Kirin 970 is also touted to be the first processor with an NPU – a Neural Processing Unit. Basically, the NPU allows the Kirin 970 to perform AI computing tasks faster and more efficiently, among other things.

The Kirin 970 is expected to make its debut on Huawei’s upcoming flagship smartphones, the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro. Scheduled to be unveiled on 16 October, it’ll be interesting to see what else the Mate 10 series will bring to the table – rumours surrounding the device have been rather enthralling too.
