Samsung Portable SSD T5 Holds Up to 2TB, is Smaller Than a Credit Card

The new Samsung Portable SSD T5 external SSD delivers two important features. It has a large capacity (up to 2TB) and a small form factor (smaller than a credit card). What is not to like about this new product from the South Korean company?

At only 74 x 57.3 x 10.5mm, this diminutive drive is five times faster than an external 500GB drive. It is also light at just 51 grams. This means you can slip this into your bag (heck, even your pocket) without adding any additional weight.

The Samsung Portable SSD T5 features Samsung’s latest 64-bit VNAND technology to ensure lightning-fast transfer speeds of up to 540MB/s. This fast transfer speed means that you can edit 4K footage directly on the drive, without any perceptible slowdown in your editing suite.

Samsung also strengthened the casing, one capable of handling drops from heights as high as two metres. The drive uses a USB-C port, and is shipped with two cables, one featuring a USB-C connector and another featuring a USB-A connector on the other end.

Not only that, the data in the drive will be safe, thanks to the 256-bit AES hardware encryption built into the drive. Plus, with an accompanying app for Android, data on the drive will be accessible using Android devices.

If you are interested in getting one of this for yourself, there will be four models to choose from, with capacities ranging from 250GB all the way to 2TB. Prices starts from US$130 (about RM550), but you’ll probably need to source them from countries such as the US – this is unlikely to make its way here anytime soon.
