Legendary Pokemon have officially been announced by Niantic. They are being released over the Pokemon Go Fest taking place on 22 July in Chicago, where trainers will have the first crack at catching this ultra rare Pokemon.
According to the announcement, the first legendary Pokemon will appear during the anniversary celebration. Should the players at the event successfully defeat whatever that appears, then legendary raids will begin appearing all over the world. Naturally, it’s difficult to imagine that Niantic would design a battle that several thousand players fail at the same time.
There’s a warning that comes with legendary Pokemon though. They cannot defend gyms, which leaves them as bragging rights to show off in screenshots.
Nobody knows which legendaries will be appearing in the first wave, although speculation has it that Niantic will release the three original birds and Mew at the same time. Of course, there is also a chance that Niantic staggers the release of the legendaries and we only get Moltres this year.
