Virtual reality (VR) might be relatively new to most of us here in Malaysia but that doesn’t stop several companies from opening VR establishments in our market. Among the latest is the SetiaWalk Outpost by a company called EXA Global which has just received its official media launch earlier today.

EXA Global, who is a subsidiary of Havson Group and provides theme park consultancy as well as event management services, referred to its new VR theme park as a Hyper-Reality Family Entertainment Center. Claimed to be the first such establishments in South East Asia, the new center in SetiaWalk Puchong is also just the first of several VR theme parks that EXA Global has planned to open throughout the world.

The main attraction of SetiaWalk Outpost at the moment is a space exploration mission called Exa Dimension 12. It was apparently developed in-house by EXA Global with the help from another Havson Group’s subsidiary, Mediasoft Entertainment that is known for its hugely popular Jump Smash mobile game while technology research is done by yet another subsidiary, Dutajaya Media.

Designed to cater up to four people at a time, the Exa Dimension 12’s experience takes around 20 minutes to be completed for general visitors but it can be customized for up to 2 hours for organizations that want to utilize SetiaWalk Outpost as part of their team building activity. EXA Global is also working on additional contents that revolves around horror and kids-friendly themes.

From our brief observations during the launch event earlier today, the individual equipment used that EXA Global used for SetiaWalk Outpost include MSI VR One gaming backpack, Oculus Rift DK2 headset, and ASUS ROG headsets. It also utilizes multi-user motion capture system called Project Alice by Noitom although it was noted that EXA Global is capable of implementing other solutions as well.

Aside from the Exa Dimension 12, the SetiaWalk Outpot apparently have additional areas where visitors are able to check EXA Global’s development in the VR field and enjoy VR arcade games although we didn’t manage to explore these area during the center’s launch event earlier today.
