OnePlus 3T Discontinued; Likely to Make Way for OnePlus 5

After being in the market for only six months, OnePlus announced that its latest – and only – smartphone, the OnePlus 3T, will be discontinued. While this is definitely a short product life cycle, there may be a good reason why the company is doing so: it could be gearing up to launch the OnePlus 5.

On OnePlus’ official forum, a representative of the company wrote that “this is the last call to buy the OnePlus 3T before stock runs out.” Evidently, OnePlus has no intention to continue manufacturing the 3T, so stocks of the device globally will likely run out very soon.

Although the OnePlus 3T won’t be available for purchase anymore in the future, OnePlus assured its users that software updates and support for both the OnePlus 3 and 3T will continue. However, the company did not detail just how long it will keep supporting these two devices.

A six-month life cycle really is quite short for a smartphone, but it’s important to note that OnePlus is not a large company. Chances are, the company intends to fully focus on production for the OnePlus 5. After all, several of its specifications – such as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset – have already been teased by the company.

For the sake of comparison, the OnePlus 3 was launched back in June 2016; it’s not far-fetched to assume that the OnePlus 5 will be introduced in the same time frame too. Until then, if you’re still keen to get the OnePlus 3T, it’s best to act fast before it’s no longer available for purchase.
