You Do Not Want to Drop the Samsung Galaxy S8

As is tradition whenever new devices are released, there are already a few drop tests of the Samsung Galaxy S8 devices. While some of them fared better than the other, this really is a phone you do not want to drop – perhaps it’s best to invest in a protective case too.

Let’s start with the smaller device of the two: the Galaxy S8. So far, we managed to find two drop tests of the S8 on YouTube, and…well, see for yourself:

Although the Galaxy S8 managed to survive a drop to the back and side relatively unscathed, dropping the S8 face-first almost always results in a cracked display. In fact, the iPhone 7 actually fared better in one of the two videos above.

And then we have the Galaxy S8+ drop test. Unlike the smaller Galaxy S8, it appears the S8+’s back glass panel is more fragile than its display; at least, that’s what the video below illustrates. Much like the previous tests, the iPhone 7 Plus managed to fare better in these different drop test scenarios, although its display – while not cracked – was already glitching near the end of the test.

It’s not surprising that the Samsung Galaxy S8 devices – or most phones in the market, for that matter – do not fare well if dropped face-first; the curved nature of their displays make them more prone to damage. At the end of the day, it may be wise to invest in a screen protector or two along with a case for your Galaxy S8 if you plan to get one.
