As promised, Tag Heuer has just announced its second-generation Android Wear smartwatch. Called the Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45, it is an Intel-powered luxury watch that packs all the latest features available on smartwatches.
As its name suggests, it is a “modular” smartwatch. It is highly customisable, and Tag Heuer says that the entire exterior of the watch can be customised; even the heart of the watch, the module, can be changed.
“Made from satin or polished grade 5 titanium, or plated with 18K 5N rose gold, or in black ceramic, with or without diamonds: after choosing a watch from the 56 different versions available from its launch (a selection of 11 standard models are systematically offered in store + 45 others on request), the entire exterior of the watch can be customized.
This customization will enable a multitude of combinations in terms of materials and colors. For the choice of strap alone, there are no fewer than 18 references available, made from rubber, natural leather or anthracite grey leather, titanium or ceramic.”
What makes the Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 special that you can change the module from a connected watch to a mechanical watch, and back again to suite the occasion and your mood. The Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 module can be swapped with a chronograph Heuer-02T tourbillion mechanical module. Specifications wise, as mentioned before, it is powered by an Intel processor. Beneath its 35.40mm AMOLED round display is an Intel Atom Z34XX processor paired with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage space. There is NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and even GPS on board. It runs on Android Wear 2.0, so you can do everything you do on an Android Wear 2.0 device like change the watch face, receive notifications, track your movements, and such. There is also a TAG Heuer Connected app for Android and iOS. Other specs include up to 30 hours of battery life, and water resistant design with a tympanic membrane over the microphone.
The Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 starts from RM7,350 onwards. If you are really rich, you can get the Deluxe box set that comes with a connected watch (in grade 5 titanium with titanium lugs and brown natural leather strap), complete with the prestigious COSC-certified chronograph Heuer-02T tourbillion mechanical module, plus an additional black rubber strap for a total price of US$17,000 (that’s about RM76,000).
