Google has released a new 3D storytelling app for kids (and adults for that matter). Toontastic 3D provides all the tools needed to create a cartoon, and is flexible enough to allow the user to input his or her own creations.
The original Toontastic was launched in 2011 by Launchpad Toys. It works on the same premise, but was limited to more traditional 2D animations. Google’s collaboration with the company has resulted in a substantially bigger and more robust game.
Education and creativity seem to be the idea behind the app, and is intended to provide kids with a new way to make presentations. There’s also the idea of getting kids started on the idea of making movies at a young age, seeing that almost all entertainment in the 21st century is based on animation.
Toontastic 3D takes up about 250MB of storage space, which is surprisingly small for a movie making app that includes all its own assets. It’s available for free on both iOS and Android. Like most other Google published apps, Toontastic 3D doesn’t have in-app purchases or ads either.
