ESL One Genting Day One: Both Malaysian Teams Fall Into The Lower Bracket

ESL One Genting 2017 has finally kicked off at Resorts World Genting with the group stages taking place earlier today. The main stage saw Fnatic vs. Virtus.Pro as the opening match of the tournament.

Despite the addition of YamateH, InYourDream, and Febby, Fnatic played a rather weak game against Virtus Pro. It was understood that the recruitment of Fnatic’s three new players was a bit rushed, with InYourDream only managing to play together with Fnatic on 4th January. The team’s synergy seemed a bit off, leading to Virtus.Pro taking the best of one game.

WG.Unity played a rematch of the Boston Major qualifiers against Wings Gaming, with the Chinese team playing a better game this time round. WG.Unity dropped to the lower bracket where they will meet Team Execration in the Group A lower bracket finals.

Apart from that, the Chinese team, Newbee took on Team NP and won the game 1-0. TI6 runner ups Digital Chaos won 1-0 against Filipino team, Execration. Newbee continued their domination in the group A upper bracket finals by pushing Virtus.Pro down to the lower bracket in a clean 2-0 wipe.

As for the group B upper bracket finals, it’s The Internationals 2016 all over again with Digital Chaos meeting Wings Gaming in a best of three series. Wings Gaming easily took game one, but Digital Chaos bounced back in game two tying the series at 1-1. Game three, Team Digital Chaos gave it their all and came out victorious 2-1.

That concludes day one of the ESL One Genting 2017. Day two will start with the first group A lower bracket match between Team Fnatic vs. Team NP.
