Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has switched teams. The Argentinian has been revealed as Huawei’s newest brand ambassador in a substantial victory over rivals Samsung; who had engaged the most recognisable face in football for promotional campaigns over the last few years.
“We are happy to announce our collaboration with an extraordinary individual who inspires people all over the world to pursue their dreams, to face challenges to become better with each day. A man who shares a lot of the same values with the Huawei brand and who is always looking for opportunities to reach greatness.” said Tyrone Liu, CEO Consumer Business Group for Huawei Latin America.
Huawei has not revealed how much it is spending on engaging Messi’s services as a global ambassador, but sources are claiming that it is between 5 and 6 million euros annually.
The Chinese company is no stranger to football and is already sponsoring several football clubs like Atletico Madrid and Arsenal. Messi is not the only footballer in Huawei’s stable of ambassadors either, as the company is also sponsoring Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich.
