Sony has been working with e-ink displays for quite some time now, and its latest product is a universal remote control with of course, an e-ink display. This is the latest product that got successfully funded on the company’s very own Kickstarter-like First Flight crowdfunding platform.
Called the Huis (pronounced ‘House’) Remote Controller, the e-ink display only shows you the necessary buttons for you to control your TV, audio system, lighting, and air-conditioners. When compared to traditional universal remote controllers that use LCD screens and buttons, the Huis Remote Controller can last the whole day without consuming power. Not only that, Sony has also mentioned that the 1,500mAh battery can last a whole month on a full charge.

The button layout on the Huis Remote Controller is fully customisable so that you only see the controls you often use. You can either set up the layout right from the remote control itself, or use the desktop companion app which conveniently supports sharing and downloading of additional settings from the Internet.
Sony’s Huis Remote Controller weighs 130g and is only available in white. For the complete list of product compatibility, check it out here (translated). It will go for 27,950 Japanese yen (about RM1,015) and shipping will begin in March in Japan. As of this writing, Sony has not mentioned whether the device will be available internationally.
