LG Display had created a flexible 18-inch display that is capable of being rolled up easily as if it is a piece of paper. The technology depends on LG’s forward-looking OLED technology which focuses on bendable and rollable displays. Additionally, the company introduced similar technology last year as proof of concept, however further details were scarce.

LG envisions that these flexible screens would be made to wrap up interior spaces or rolling up into people’s pockets easily. Furthermore, the source reported that the 18-inch display is an indication that the company views these kind of displays from other companies, such as Samsung or Sharp, as “differentiation points” for smartphones, tablets, and TVs.

OLED displays can provide sharper, crispier images and brighter colors. Also, in low ambient light conditions such as a dark room, OLEDs can achieve a higher contrast ratio than LCD or LED screens. The technology, however, has its drawbacks such as the high manufacturing cost of production and short lifespan. That being said, this is still a cool innovation of technology.

According to The Verge, it will look closer at the 18-inch display in a couple of days, presumably to get to know its specifications. The website will also look at LG’s new 55 inch ‘paper thin’ TV that has its electronics installed independently. We will get back to the coverage once we find more updated information about the flexible display.
