After four years, Canon has finally launches the successor to its EOS 5D Mark III DSLR last month in the form of  EOS 5D Mark IV. As indicated by its name, the new DSLR brings a number of upgrades over its predecessor and has made its Malaysian debut earlier today.

For starters, the EOS 5D Mark IV is now powered by a Digic 6+ image processor with a 30.4 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor coupled with Dual Pixel CMOS AF. It is also capable of taking up to 7 frames per second continuously and it boasts 61 points reticular AF, of which all are f/8-sensitive, while 41 of them are capable of cross-type AF. Its ISO range has increased to 100 to 32,000 compared to the maximum 25,600 on the 5D Mark III.

The Canon EOS 5D Mark IV is also capable of 4K video recording with a new 4K Frame Grab feature. While recording 4K video, photographers are able to capture a still frame at 4K resolution. That being said, the quality of the 4K Frame Grab will not be as good as a still image. The 5D Mark IV now also sport a 3.2-inch touch display, allowing users to pin point their desired autofocus (AF) points.

Other than that, the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV is now equipped with connectivity options including GPS, Wi-Fi, as well as NFC. Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity allows users to quickly transfer images while GPS enables calibration of photo capture times and geotagging. In terms of size, the 5D Mark IV is slightly smaller compared to its predecessor. The 5D Mark IV’s body is also 60g lighter (800g) when compared to the 5D Mark III’s body weight of 860g.

Price-wise, the stand-alone body of EOS 5D Mark IV is listed at RM15,299. Should you wish to buy it with a kit lens, the company will be selling the DSLR in two kits – one with an EF 24-70 IS USM lens at RM18,399 while the other with an EF 24-105 IS II USM lens will go for RM19,399. Other than that, Canon also introduced the ultra wide-angle EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM lens and EF 24-105mm f/4.0L IS II USM lens. Both these lenses will be sold at RM10,199 and RM5,669 respectively.

In terms of availability, the body only and 24-70 kit lens bundle of the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV will be available this month onwards, while the 24-105 kit lens bundle, EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM lens, and EF 24-105mm f/4.0L IS II USM lens will be available from mid-November onwards.
