Apple Planning to Remove the MacBook Pro’s Headphone Jack & Other Ports?

Apple has unveiled various new products this year, with the most recent ones being the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. That being the case, there are a few of the Cupertino company’s products that have not been refreshed yet. Namely, the MacBook Pro lineup, and if recent surveys sent out by Apple are any indication, the MacBook Pro may feature even less ports than its predecessor.

According to Mac Rumors, Apple has been sending out various surveys to consumers. One of the questions was particularly interesting: “do you ever use the headphone port on your MacBook Pro with Retina display?” More likely than not, Apple is – at the very least – considering to remove the audio jack on future MacBook Pro models.

Aside from the headphone jack, the surveys also asked other questions concerning consumers’ general usage pattern of their MacBook Pro, which involve battery life as well as how they “upload photos from a digital camera or phone to your MacBook Pro.”

All of these questions point to the fact that future iterations of the MacBook Pro may have their ports overhauled to a certain extent. Chances are, the results of the surveys will determine which port will be omitted. Needless to say, the omission of a full-size USB port or a card reader will not sit will with certain consumers, especially those who use a MacBook Pro as their main machine.

Regardless, Mac Rumors mentioned that the design of this year’s MacBook Pro has already been finalised, so it’s possible that these surveys are meant for MacBook Pro models beyond 2016. Hopefully, Apple will unveil its new MacBook Pro lineup soon; rumours are pointing to a launch within Q4 2016.
