ZTE’s Crowdsourced Ideas Picks Three Winners; Includes A Powerglove And Self Adhesive Phone

ZTE’s CSX project has finally selected three winners from its pool of fan-proposed ideas. These winning ideas happen to be some rather interesting concepts like a smartphone that sticks to any surface and a programmable powerglove. They will be moving on to Phase 2 of the programme, where fans are asked to submit ideas on how these features should be implemented.

The first idea in the lineup is actually a combination of several features. The concept seems to be to allow a smartphone to be used with as little interaction as possible. To achieve this, the fans think that ZTE’s next phone should include eye-tracking technology combined with a medical grade silicone adhesive. Ideally, this will result in a phone that can be stuck to any surface for reading, while pages can be scrolled by simply looking at the bottom of the screen.

Next is a mechanical glove intended to help train specific movements, either to learn a new skill or rehabilitate patients. The idea is that people will be able to download specific instructions into the glove, which will then guide their movements. At the moment, the idea seems to like the idea of using it to teach people to play the piano or proper typing form.

The last idea selected for Phase 2 of CSX is something less outlandish, although this makes it a lot more dull compared to the other two ideas. What it is happens to be a VR diving mask, that will allow people to literally dive in virtual reality. Unfortunately, the concept sketches happen to look like a regular VR headset, albeit one that is water resistant.

ZTE is now asking its online community to help refine these ideas, and perhaps come up with something that may be marketable. However, it is not limiting people to just these three. Those who are joining the party late and have a concrete idea can still attempt a wildcard submission; although there are additional guidelines for doing so.

Keep in mind that ZTE will be trying its best to get the ideas implemented in the its next smartphone. In exchange, the company is giving $1500 (about RM6000) to the winning ideas from the second Phase of the project; which is at least something for doing all that work.
