What’s most interesting about a Valve-organised tournament is not just the big teams and its players, but the Secret Shop. Named after the Secret Shop in-game, it’s a store where fans can purchase official Dota 2 merchandise like T-shirts, collectible pins, mousepad, and more.
But for the Manila Major, the organisers, PGL eSports are doing it a little differently. Instead of letting fans purchase items individually, the company is selling them in three different boxes – common, rare, and legendary. Prices of the boxes are 1,000 peso (about RM88), 2,000 peso (roughly RM177), and 3,000 peso (approximately RM265) respectively.
The common box consists of a Manila Major iPhone 6 or 6 Plus case (depending on your luck), a Dota 2 lanyard, a mousepad, and a Dota 2 collectible pin with a code for a matching in-game pin. A rare box would include all of the above, with a few additional items.
So, what can be found in a Manila Major Dota 2 Legendary box?
The contents are the things you’ll find in a common box, with an additional Dota 2 T-shirt, a Manila Major cap, a Dota 2 Micro Plush with a ‘Lockless Vessel’ treasure in-game code, Dota 2 socks (yes, socks) and a Manila Major messenger bag. If you’re lucky, the Legendary box you purchase might also include a limited Dota 2 edition of the Steelseries Rival 100 gaming mouse, which also comes with a ‘Pale Edge’ in-game item for the hero, Slark.
You never know what you’re going to get because the Secret Shop staff will not let you inspect the contents. Once a box is sold, it’s not returnable. Which is why many were hanging around the Secret Shop, trading items and reselling boxes.
