Illegear Introduces New Z7 17-inch Gaming Laptop

Illegear has finally released a 17.3-inch version of its popular Z-series gaming laptops. The new Illegear Z7 is effectively the Z5 laptop in a larger body, with little difference in terms of hardware. In fact, this is pretty much just the same thing – including the price tag.

The Illegear Z7 trades its display up to a 17.3-inch screen, although the resolution remains at 1080p – which is the same as that on the Z5. Size is the only difference between the two as the Z7 also uses an IPS panel like the one found on its smaller cousin.

Powering the Illegear Z7 is a sixth generation Core i7-6700HQ processor paired with 8GB of high performance RAM. Like most Illegear products, the amount of RAM can be adjusted up to 32GB. It should be noted that the base model uses single channel RAM, which isn’t entirely ideal for gaming; but does keep the cost down.

Graphics are provided by a choice between an Nvidia GTX 960M 4GB GDDR5 or a GTX 970M 6GB GDDR5. There is a significant price difference when bumping the GPU up to the 970M, although to be fair it represents quite a jump in processing power.

Rounding out the specifications are stock Hitachi 1TB SATA HDD, which can also be customised depending on the needs of the user. The Z7 also support M.2 drives, allowing a secondary storage device to be added by those with a little extra cash to splash. The customisation options also allow for the SATA drive to be dropped entirely in the event that one only wants to run off the M.2 SSD.

The Illegear Z7 starts at RM4,699 for the base model, and varies depending on how the machine is customised. It should be noted that the base model does not include any operating system, and that the cheapest option for an OS is Windows 10 Home Edition for RM419.

Illegear is already selling the Z7 through its online store and those interested in it should head over there to take a look.
