Huawei’s latest devices, the Huawei Mate S and G8, have been registered on SIRIM. Unveiled back at IFA 2015, these smartphones were originally slated to be released in Malaysia last month. Seeing how they have now appeared on SIRIM, the Mate S and G8 could be launched here sometime this month.

Between the two devices, the Mate S is the higher-end offering. In terms of specification, it has a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display, a HiSilicon Kirin 935 octa-core processor paired with 3GB of RAM, a 2,700mAh battery, a 13MP rear camera with optical image stabilisation, an 8MP front-facing snapper, as well as three choices of expandable internal storage: 32GB, 64GB and 128GB.

What makes the Mate S particularly interesting is its pressure-sensitive display, which is able to detect how much pressure is applied to the screen; much like the new iPhones’ 3D Touch technology. Originally dubbed as Force Touch, it seems to have received a new name: Pressure Sensitive Touch Technology. While that’s quite a mouthful, it should avoid any confusion with Apple’s Force Touch feature that’s used in the Apple Watch and MacBooks.

The Huawei G8, on the other hand, is a very respectable mid-range device. It features a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 resolution IPS display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor paired with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage expandable with a microSD card up to 64GB, a 3,000mAh battery, and a fingerprint sensor like the Mate S. In the camera department, it has a 13MP rear camera with OIS and a 5MP front-facing shooter.

While there’s no word yet from Huawei Malaysia on when the Mate S and G8 will be launched here, it should be happening soon, seeing how these devices have now appeared on SIRIM. The question is: will the Huawei Watch make an appearance as well?
