On top of introduced an update to its Messenger app, Facebook also launched a new Facebook Lite for Android that uses less data, and works well across all network conditions.
Perfect for all of those with a limited data plan or are running low on data, Facebook Lite consumes less data compared to the full version of Facebook app. It is only less than 1MB in size, making it fast to install and quick to load. Facebook Lite still features core Facebook experiences like News Feed, status updates, photos, notifications and such.
The app is available for download immediately from the Play Store right now. It looks like a very much simplified version of the usual Facebook app, but you still get access to all the usual features. Sadly though, videos will not load, instead, Facebook Lite will show you a still image of the video instead.
While the main Facebook app does not integrate Facebook’s messaging platform, Facebook Lite allows you to use Messenger within the app itself. Like Facebook Lite, Messenger within the app is a simplified version of Facebook Messenger, allowing you to send text and even pictures with your friends. Sadly, animated stickers will not load, instead, Facebook will only send a still image of the sticker.
