Remember the Gionee M3 with a huge 5,000mAh battery that promises more than a month of standby time? The company is planning to raise the bar with its successor, the Gionee M5. Instead of being powered by a single battery, it will have two separate batteries that Gionee claims will last up to four days of usage.

Unfortunately, not much has been revealed about the Gionee M5 yet. What was made known, however, is the fact that the M5 can work with only one battery. Because of this, it’s highly likely that the batteries are removable.

While this is a rather unique take on battery technology, it’s a little puzzling as to why Gionee decided to use two smaller batteries instead of just one large cell. Then again, this would also mean longer charging time and losing the ability to charge only one of the two batteries, giving users the convenience of not having the phone connected to a charger. It will be interesting to see how Gionee will implement this feature, not to mention if the M5 will be a thick device.

Previously, we reported that Gionee is planning to enter the Malaysian market starting with the Elife S7. That being said, there’s a chance Gionee will be bringing in the M5 as well. That is, if the company’s plan to come to Malaysia is still in the pipeline.
