Samsung Malaysia will be unveiling ‘A’ new line of tablets – the Galaxy Tab A in Malaysia next week. The company is marketing the tablet as a device that is suited for both work and play, being the one gadget that can be brought from the “boardroom to the living room”.

The Galaxy Tab A comes in two sizes – an 8-inch model and a 9.7-inch model, both powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex A53 Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor paired with 1.5GB of RAM. They feature the same screen resolution of 1024 x 768 despite having different screen sizes. In terms of storage, there are two variants as well – 16GB or 32GB internal storage with microSDXC memory expansion capability.

Each has a 2MP front camera with a 5MP shooter on the back. They measure 7.5mm thick, but the 8-inch model weighs 313g while the larger model weighs 449g. To power the device, there’s a 4,200mAh battery built in the 8-inch model and a 6,000mAh battery in the 9.7-inch model. Connectivity wise, they both have the standard Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and a microUSB 2.0 port.

These mid-range tablets have pretty similar internal hardware, except for the screen size and battery capacity. They come with the lighter-weight Touchwiz UI and bundled Microsoft apps such as OneDrive, OneNote and Skype. OneDrive gives the user 115GB of cloud storage free for two years.

We will just have to wait for the launch event to find out more about its pricing and availability. Not to mention, whether Samsung Malaysia will bring in both variants of the Galaxy Tab A or just one.
