You don’t have to have data to receive updates on Facebook, Altel recently launched Facebook SMS that lets you do it all using only SMS.
For only RM1 a week, you can update your Facebook status, receive a friend’s status update, reply a comment, poke a friend and even add a friend vis SMS. It isn’t much, and can be rather annoying but if you’re running low on data, this is a great way to ensure you’re still connected.
To subscribe, simply dial *135# on your mobile phone or type “ON F” and send the SMS to 25837. Once you’ve successfully subscribed to the service, you will receive a confirmation code via SMS. You’ll need to log into your Facebook account, select Settings, and key in the code in the Facebook Mobile Settings section and your mobile number will appear. Once done, you will be able to use Altel Facebook SMS.
To update your Facebook status, just type the status and send to 25837. You will get notifications for comments and to reply, simply type and reply to the SMS. There’s a list of actions you can do via SMS as shown below:
Should you need help, just type HELP and send to 25837. Do note that on top of the RM1/week subscription, you will be charged for each command you send at RM0.05 per SMS, so watch your credit.
